Bluewater

Bluewater specializes in the design, lease, ownership and operation of Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessels; and the design and supply of CALM Systems & advanced Single Point Mooring Systems. For offshore renewable energy production, Bluewater has developed a Floating Wind TLP, a Tidal Energy Converter Platform, Solar Matrasses and the E-Buoy.

Through the years, Bluewater designed, owned and operated ten FPSO’s (Floating Production Storage and offloading systems), of which three have been retired and two have been sold back to the oil companies. Presently, Bluewater owns and operates five FPSOs for our clients. Since its foundation in 1978, Bluewater has developed some of the most innovative Single Point Mooring (SPM) systems in service from Catenary Anchor Leg Mooring (CALM) Buoys, to Turret Mooring and Tower systems featuring multiple risers. Each system has its own characteristics and fields of application.

It is anticipated that floating offshore wind could become 15% of all offshore wind energy by 2050, or 265 GW. Floating wind farms require different installation methods compared to bottom-fixed. A Tension Leg Platform (TLP) gets it stability from pre-tension in the tendons, as a reaction from the net-buoyancy of the floater. Without tendons, the transport of the complete TLP-WTG assembly is therefore challenging. A component-wise installation, e.g. TLP and tendons first, followed by tower, nacelle and blades, requires multiple offshore lifting operations each with their own installation criteria and limits. Case: sketch a Transport and Installation method for the Bluewater TLP and 15 MW WTG from marshalling to site, including tendon hook-on. Future innovations in tooling and installation vessels can be introduced. The selection criteria are transport efficiency, required investments & developments of new tooling, robustness and workability. The overall goal is to reduce the levelized cost of energy (LCOE) for floating wind.
