Adyen was founded in 2006 by a group of entrepreneurs, including Pieter van der Does and Arnout Schuijff. The existing payments technology consisted of a patchwork of systems built on outdated infrastructure. With the aim of helping businesses grow, the co-founders set out to build a platform capable of meeting the rapidly evolving needs of today's fast-growing global businesses. Adyen's founding team called the business Adyen – Surinamese for "Start over again" – and focused on building a modern infrastructure directly connected to card networks and local payment methods across the world, allowing for unified commerce and providing shopper data insights to merchants. The Adyen platform enables merchants to accept payments in a single system, enabling revenue growth online, on mobile devices and at the point of sale.
In 2018 Adyen was ranked 16th on the CNBC Disruptor 50 list making Adyen one of the leading private companies changing the world through innovation. In order to keep innovating and making sure we offer the best payment solution out there, we operate in an agile manner, guided by the Adyen Formula and the ever-evolving needs of merchants. These principles – to help merchants grow, to change the payments landscape, and to have fun while doing it – allow us to be a growth partner to the merchants that we work with. We aim to be at the forefront when it comes to developing new functionality as business models evolve.
As a company we
strive to make good choices to build an ethical business. Being a rapidly expanding company, so expands our social responsibility. In order to give back to the society we have initiated several initiatives (with more to come in the near future!). One of these initiatives is for example our collaboration with HackYourFuture. This organization is training refugees to be programmers and our development team is coaching participants by checking their coding assignments and practicing (technical) interviews with them to fully prepare them for the Dutch job market.
We are looking for people who recognize themselves in the Adyen Formula. In addition, we are interested in your educational background, or work portfolio. A degree in a technical field is an enormous asset, although we believe a diversity of skills, viewpoints, and backgrounds makes us stronger. We are on the lookout for talented, dedicated engineers, financial experts and data analysts who not only enjoy assisting clients even with small issues, but are always thinking of creative ways to eliminate the root cause of issues and deliver the smoothest possible experience to the customer.
